Thailand Unseen E6: The red lotus sea

The Talay Bua Daeng or Red Lotus Sea isn't something you stumble upon every day. This extraordinary sight can be found in Udon Thani, where it transforms into a sea of pink lotus flowers during the cool season between November and February each year.

Apart from being an absolute feast for your eyes, this place also offers opportunities for bird watching as it attracts several migratory birds during the blooming season. So don't forget to pack those binoculars.

This vast freshwater lake covers around 600 hectares with millions of lotus blossoms dancing across its surface, creating quite the spectacle. Hire a boat and cruise through it while taking in panoramic views all around.
